The Ohio Senate has approved seven members to operate the newly established Miami University Center for Civics, Culture, and Society, as part of the state's biennial budget initiative. Senator Jerry Cirino and Senator Rob McColley sponsored the legislation that created five such centers at Ohio public universities, aiming to foster open civic discourse on college campuses.

In a statement, Senator Jerry Cirino expressed his enthusiasm for the Miami University Center for Civics, Culture, and Society, highlighting its significance in providing students with a platform to engage with the fundamental ideas and historical events that have influenced the nation. Cirino praised the appointed members as "exceptional scholars and leaders who will run the center with expertise and efficiency," ensuring that all Miami University students can explore the works of America's founders and influential philosophers.

The center will serve as a focal point at Miami University for both teaching and research on the historical concepts, traditions, and texts that have played a pivotal role in shaping American society and its constitutional framework. The seven appointed members who will oversee the center are Ryan Barilleaux, Thomas Cleveland, Donald Crain, Gary Gregg II, Dennis Lieberman, Jeffrey Sikkenga, and Bradley Smith.

Looking ahead, Senator Cirino mentioned the Senate's forthcoming review and confirmation of appointees for similar centers at Cleveland State University and the University of Cincinnati.
